NPFL Match Day 6: Akwa Utd wins first match of the season …beat Remo Stars in Uyo

Akwa United football club of Uyo beat Remo Stars Football club of Shagamu by alone goal in a week six fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League match played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Substitute striker Musa Newman scored the only goal of the match in the 83rd minutes of the match to helped his team to their first league victory of the season.

Coach Abdul Maikaba made three changes to the team that drew 1-1 with Katsina United on match day five.

Kodjo Dadzie returned in left back. Cyril Olisema started in midfield while Amaechi Orji was handed his first start of the season.
The Promise Keepers who had drawn three and lost two of their first five matches of the season, made their intentions known from the blast of the whistle with striker Christian Pyagbara and Alhassan Ibrahim tormenting the opponents defense line.

Coach Abdul Maikaba’s boys created some clear goal scoring opportunities but were unable to convert their chances.

The visitors had few opportunities in the first half and their effort did not really troubled Olufemi Kayode.

After a goalless first half, the home fans grew restless while urging their team to push forward.

As the match was heading to a goalless draw, Coach Maikaba made a tactical substitution with Musa Newman replacing Cyril Olisema.

Three minutes after his introduction, Pyagbara combined neatly with Alhassan to set up Newman who scored from close range to help Akwa United secure their first win of the season.

The 2015 Federation Cup champions who are unbeaten in three matches are second from bottom on the league table with six points from six matches.

The promise Keepers will next face Enyimba International of Aba on match day seven at the U. J. Essuene stadium in Calabar.
